PEMF and Inflammation Modulation

Study: Vincenzi F, et al. Pulsed Electromagnetic Fields Increased the Anti-Inflammatory Effect of A2A and A3 Adenosine Receptors in Human T/C-28a2 Chondrocytes and hFOB 1.19 Osteoblasts.

 

This is a very useful study for explaining how PEMF might influence inflammatory signaling.

 

Researchers found that PEMF exposure increased the expression and functionality of A2A and A3 adenosine receptors in human cartilage and bone cell lines. Activation of these pathways was associated with decreased release of inflammatory mediators including IL-6, IL-8 and PGE2.

 

This is considerably more scientifically defensible than simply saying “PEMF reduces inflammation.”

Laboratory research suggests PEMF can influence adenosine-receptor pathways involved in regulating inflammatory mediators.
